HGTV: How would you describe your style? What are your design style preferences?

Ronnie Negus: I LOVE Ralph Lauren and a majority of our furniture is from Ralph Lauren in Beverly Hills. I like our home to feel comfortable but elegant.

HGTV: Where do you shop for home decor in Vancouver?

Ronnie Negus: I have everything made or I travel and buy random pieces and I sometimes find great pieces at Chintz and Company. Online, however, I currently have my eye on a few pieces by Marge Carson - I have fallen in love with her website…Time to start ordering.

HGTV: Tell us about the art in your home. How do you choose it? Do you have a favourite piece?

Ronnie Negus: Art is such an individual thing, what one person would pay a million dollars for another person would store in the garage. My favourite piece of art is by Ray Hare who studies wild horses and then paints them. I fell in love with this piece while on vacation in Aspen, Colorado. I feel the piece speaks to me, it is incredibly powerful. I love horses and this piece reminded me of our family running forward together as a group.

HGTV: What’s the coolest part or item in your home?

Ronnie Negus: Our new theatre room is so cool and nearly complete.  I wanted a traditional European theatre feeling and so I went with crushed red velvet curtains with red Swarovski crystals all over them which took almost five months to make. The chairs were custom ordered and they vibrate and do all the tricks while a show is playing. We have Dolby surround sound and I am currently in the process of designing the ceiling so that when the lights are off, it looks like a million stars above.

HGTV: Why four houses side by side and not one giant mansion?

Ronnie Negus: When it is all done, our two main homes will become one, making our main home about 8500 to 9000 sq. feet in total. The man cave will remain the man cave and we plan to turn our empty lot into a beautiful guest home that we envision our daughter Remington, who has special needs, living in one day so that she is just a stone’s throw away, but has her own independence.

HGTV: How do you decide which house to host/film in?

Ronnie Negus: I host dinner parties in the main house, but we have thrown all of our children’s birthdays in the man cave as we have a climbing wall, a compete school room/toy room, go-karts that we actually drive around inside the man cave, table tennis, an arcade sized foosball table and you can write all over the walls. My husband uses that for business meetings and it can be completely erased after and ready to go again (the kids love this). During the summer, we all like to sit around the outdoor fire pit.  I filmed all of my interviews in my old house next door and I can tell you it was nice to have a set stage I could walk onto and off of…and not use the main house.

Our home is still a work in progress and instead of throwing anything in to fill it up I have decided to go slowly add and find different pieces that I love and cannot live without. It’s slowly but surely coming along. When our two main homes are combined it will be truly beyond spectacular. The dining room table, which is something I’ve always dreamed of, especially having so many kids and anticipating growing marriages etc., will seat 16 permanently. That will definitely be a custom order!

HGTV: What’s your favourite room in the house? Why?

Ronnie Negus: My favourite room in the house is my bedroom. It is so peaceful and the view is breathtaking. I do most of my writing here, and often sit and look outside at the snowcapped mountains and meditate. When I am lying in bed you cannot see any land -- only ocean -- it almost feels like you are on a ship. It is sort of my sanctuary here. (I’m writing this in my room right now!)

HGTV: What is the one thing in your home that means the most to you? Why?

Ronnie Negus: The most important thing in my home and what means most to me is my family. Family is what makes a home a home and not a house. I value family more than anything and have a little plaque in the main guest bathroom that reads, “Our family is a circle of love and strength. With every birth and every union the circle grows. Every joy shared adds more love. Every crisis faced together makes the circle stronger.” - Rhonda Kullberg.
