With college and university students moving out of their parents' house for the first time, they need advice of how to decorate their place on a budget. To not throw away your money, select pieces that will follow you for many years.

Many people give a face-lift to IKEA products. A friend of mine painted a series of FIRA mini chests white (above). She hung the boxes on her kitchen wall to store all her loose tea leaves. The top acts as a shelf to display her collection of teapots. It is charming and practical. (Image by Elizabeth Delage).

Circles pop up lately in home décor. Zoe is a set of seven mirrors (above left) that you group horizontally or vertically. It looks great in an entrance or over the sofa.

Urban Outfitters is popular amongst young adults. At $12, the Swede Geo lampshade (above right) infuses personality to an old lamp found at a garage sale or given by an old aunt.

The bronze arbera wall tile designed by William Harvey comes in a set of three tiles. For $31.50, the tiles give a refined look to any room. I like the shadow effect.
