DIY: Storage Bench

Posted by Renee Elliott Monday, January 27, 2014 10:52 AM EST

I’m moving into a new condo this month which means I’m going to be tight on space and on my wallet. I love using items I already have and making them feel new again. I decided a storage bench for my foyer was just what I needed. It’s the perfect item for storing shoes and winter accessories!

Wood crate

Piece of 1/4” plywood

2-inch upholstery foam

Cotton batting

Spray glue

Staple gun

4 rolling swivel castors & screws

STEP 1: Have the piece of plywood and foam cut to the dimensions of the top of the wood crate.

STEP 2: Spray the glue onto one side of the foam and attach to the plywood to create your lid to your storage box.

STEP 3: Lay out the cotton batting and place the lid foam side down leaving at least 3 inches of cotton batting on either side. Fold the cotton batting over and staple to the plywood. Be sure to smooth it out as you go. Trim off excess.

STEP 4: Repeat step three using the fabric.

STEP 5: Flip wood crate upside down and screw one castor on each corner of the crate.

STEP 6: Turn your crate over, set on the lid and your storage box is ready!
