Leave a special message for your Valentine this year that they’ll will see every morning, long after Valentine’s Day is over. This tutorial will show you how to make a custom Valentine’s day mug for your sweetheart using Sharpie’s oil based paint markers.
Materials:
- Sharpie paint markers (oil based)
- White mug
- Cookie Sheet
- Oven
STEP 1: Love Lettered
Remove the cap of the marker and press down on the marker’s tip with your finger. Put the cap back on and shake the marker vigorously. Continue to shake the marker until the tip is full of paint. Now, have fun drawing on your mug!
I’m drawn to anything hand lettered with high contrast so I used a black marker to write “Love” on one of my mugs and on the second mug I used a gold marker to make a stripe at the top and bottom and a heart that reads “Be Mine” inside. Have fun with your graphics, messaging and incorporating different colours!
STEP 2: Get the Coffee Ready
When you are finished, allow your mug to air dry for 24 hours. Once it’s dry, pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees, place your mug on a cookie sheet and bake for 30 minutes. This will set the paint causing it to permanently adhere to the mug.
On Valentine’s Day, fill your mug with chocolates or have it ready and waiting with your loved one’s favourite hot beverage!
