Kitchens have come a long way in recent years. They now boast couches, fireplaces, televisions—they’re essentially the epicentre of the house. But let’s not forget the original purpose of these rooms; creating a cozy space for leisurely breakfasts, a quick bite of lunch or a family dinner is key to making the most of your kitchen.
Consider these tips when decorating your breakfast nook and look through our gallery for some mouth-watering kitchen inspiration.
1. Work With What You Have: Whether you have space for a full table and chairs, or just a counter top and stools, having a formal space for sitting and eating is important to your health, and beats eating on the couch every night.
2. Create Cohesion: Try to incorporate design elements from the kitchen into your table and chairs. You want the space to feel like an extension of the kitchen, not an appendage. Try a series of artwork framed throughout both space, or complementary colours.
3. Comfort is Key: Add pillows and throws to make the dining area even more inviting and comfortable. This will encourage guests to relax over an extra glass of wine, or keep kids from dashing off after chowing down. Consider what you use the space for, some people like to work at their kitchen tables, in which case comfy chairs are a must!
4. Accessorize, Accessorize: Bring personality to the space with additional decor, like flowers and centrepieces, or even a collection of keepsakes on the table.
