Last Thursday on Home To Flip, host Peter Fallico worked on the first impression rooms: the foyer and front room. In order to turn this outdated home into a buyer's dream, Peter had to add a closet in the foyer and some class to an ugly living area — most importantly, tackling the tacky fireplace.

The Foyer: The carpet on the stairs was ripped out and replaced with a neutral runner. The stairs and balusters were painted white and the hand rail was stripped then stained leaving the original wood to complement the new hardwood floors.

The Living Room: Also treated to new hardwood floors, the living room feels airy, sophisticated and cosy all at once. The fireplace was painted and a grander built-in mantle was added to cover the brick and incorporate some chic architectural details. Peter also managed to salvage the ceiling. It features plaster swirls and spirals that the team thought might have to be covered with drywall. By using a light fixture with a circular motif, Peter was able to pull the whole room together, adding a bit of whimsy with the existing ceiling design.
