Bargain Saturday: The Writing is on the Wall, in Chalk

Chalkboards aren't just for kids. Actually, chalkboards aren't just for... boards. You can slather chalkboard paint on any wall, piece of furniture, appliance or whatever. It's an affordable and dramatic way to turn something as plain as a bare wall into an interactive piece. And you're not limited to the classic black or green chalkboard colour, the paint is available in a variety of colours.

Check out three of my favourite creative uses of chalkboard paint:

From the left:

  • Backsplash: an inexpensive way to transform your kitchen (via KitchAnn Style)
  • Refrigerator: if it still works, but you're tired of the look. (via Daily Danny)
  • Calendar: organize your office (via Martha Stewart)

Where exactly can you buy this stuff? Well, just about anywhere you buy paint. At Home Depot you can pick up Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Paint for $21.49 (all you need is one coat and it will cover about 10 square meters).

Finally, if you want to bring your chalkboard project to the next level: magnetize it! You can prime your surface with Magnetic Wall Primer.
