Mood Board: Move Over Tangerine, Make Room for Kelly Green!

If you haven’t been already, Kelly Green is a colour to watch. We’ve seen it floating down fashion runways for some time, not to mention in notable interiors such as the trend setting boutique hotel designed by Kelly Wearstler, the Santa Monica Viceroy. With spring on the way, maybe it’s time you thought about it too?

Vibrant green is not for the faint of heart. It’s a bold colour that can stand up to strong prints and graphic patterns. It works well paired with punchy black and white accents or with its analogous colour on the colour wheel, aqua blue, for a more tropical South Beach vibe. If you already have a room with a predominantly black and white colour scheme changing up your space might be as easy as painting your walls a luscious green like Benjamin Moore’s Iguana Green, and adding some new throw pillows. However, if it is a total transformation you crave (and who doesn’t after a long grey winter) you might want to try pulling together something like the moodboard below...

Green and aqua Ikat fabric: Hickory Chair, 3712-97
Solid green silk: Lee, Parrot Green
Solid green cotton & linen:Lee, Riva Parrot
Patterned green cotton fabric: Lee, Latimer Green
White perforated bowl: West Elm
White porcelain tile: Mettro Source, Foster, "Blanco"
Necklace: Banana Republic
Travertine: Saltillo Tile, Patika
Paint chips: Benjamin Moore; Onyx (2133-10); Iguana Green (2028-10); Creme Fraiche (2023-70)
Gold Bowl: West Elm
Black Bowl: Vintage

Kelly green is an energetic and invigorating colour which makes it well suited to a room that sees a lot of lively activity. A living room, dining room or kitchen would be a perfect choice. I can see the above fabrics and materials working extremely well in a tropical house with crisp white tile floors, lush green silk drapes, a couple of graphically patterned statement chairs and lots of throw pillows in the green and aqua Ikat pattern. However, the above scheme would work equally well in a downtown, urban dining room. Imagine a room with glossy ebony floors and crisp white paneling topped off with a dramatic black and gold chandelier. Solid green silk curtains pooling on the floor would be the perfect accompaniment to dining room chairs upholstered in the green and aqua Ikat. Add in some gold accessories and you’ll have a dining room that is bold and beautiful!

LOVE this color. I recently painted my kitchen cabinets in a variation- underpainted with benji moore's carbon, with a top coat of b.m. seaweed. white walls, black and white floors. It makes me smile every day.
