Colour Inspiration: Chocolate Brown and Tropical Turquoise from The Mix

Have you been watching our new web series The Mix, with designer Sam Pynn? In each short webisode, Sam tours one of her favourite spaces and explains how "the mix" of decor really works. It's addictive on your lunch break, I confess!

I was struck by the Graphic Luxury webisode, where Sam tours a condo bedroom designed by Jeffery Fisher for a young couple. The silver and gray wallpaper adds a total visual punch, while the brown makes it cozy and the turquoise adds brightness and zing.

The palette: white, turquoise, soft brown, gray, chocolate brown

This room works, but if you like the palette and perhaps want to see it used differently, let's try something else...

Mrs. Godfrey chair, Jonathan Adler; Serena and Lily Elephant Pouf in Leaf/Turquoise

Industrial metal stand with mesh doors, Industrial Furniture Store

What if the comfy TV-watching furniture was turquoise? And the TV stand industrial metal?

Chelsea Stripe throw and Chelsea Stripe major brown pillow, Dwell Studio

What if the throw and bed pillows were a patterned brown and gray?

And imagine the wallpaper not so dark, but still packing a graphic punch. What do you think?

Brown and blue are a classic combo -- have you used a similar palette in your home?
