Eastcoast–westcoast, the rivalry’s always there (is it just me, or is the rivalry particularly palpable between Toronto and Vancouver?) But all is well when our favorite décor shops deem both coasts worthy of a store front, as in the case of Toronto-born Stylegarage.

The 10-year old décor shop and home of Gus* Modern furniture, has just opened a second location in Vancouver’s seedy-but-chic Gastown, Woodward district.

GUS Atwood sectional, $3250
Stylegarage’s success is two-fold: one part being the made-to-order furniture by industrial designer David Podsiadlo, and the other being the readily available Gus* Modern collection, available for shipping across Canada (via Stylegarage as well as Canadian online retailers such as ModernKaribou.com).

GUS Upcyle ottomans, $450 ea.
Both Stylegarage and Gus complement each other on the showroom floor. Products of Canadian craftsmanship, Stylegarage pieces tend to use solid wood, recycled concrete, and water-based stains in the collection, while Gus leans more toward soft upholstery pieces such as sofas and ottomans, as well as dining tables and various living room accessories. V-town's Stylegarage storefront includes a Gus*Studio, showcasing the entire collection of FSC Certified Gus* Modern pieces.
Locals will especially appreciate the Loft Collection, since most Gastown dwellers live in condos and small spaces.
