It was love at first sight for me the second I pulled up to this sweet little store in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighborhood. A triple treat of equal parts food market, café, and home décor, Marché St. George is part of a family home owned by husband and wife team Pascal Roy and Janaki Larsen.

The place is a true hidden gem. No big flashy sign out front, matter of fact, you could drive right by it nestled on a quiet corner of a very residential street, in a very residential neighbourhood.

Everything in the store you'll want to touch. The densely stocked shelves hold gourmet goodies from around the globe, as well as Provencal-inspired home decor items such as antique cutting boards, table linens, home scents and other textiles. Janaki’s aesthetic eye as a talented artist and film set decorator is instantly apparent throughout.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with her on a few projects over the years, and this latest project seems a natural progression: Marché St. George brings together all of the things she loves.

The table linens, in natural cotton and linen, are all made at a family-run linen mill in Eastern Europe and range from $14.95 - $146. Hand-loomed Peshtemal Turkish towels from Istanbul are made with organic cotton and are incredibly soft to the touch – you must touch to believe! In muted, striped greys, shades of celery and mustard, I’d be tempted to wear one as a swooshy scarf over my jean jacket. Lest your sofa be jealous, local fashion designer Isabelle Dunlop of The Block fame, does up gorgeous wool throws -- my favorite is the periwinkle.
