Top 5 Friday: Furniture and Accessories That Work For Babies and Parents

I’ve been all about repurposing and reusing items from your home these days. My last post demonstrated how you could make your outdoor furniture work both inside and out, IF you buy smart. Seeing as it’s all about kiddies this month on Style Sheet, I’ve decided to continue this theme by sharing some ideas on how to buy smart for your nursery. Incorporating pieces that can easily more from baby style to parent style is not as hard as you may think...

Side Table/Kids Desk

The Automatism blog; I Still Love You blog

It can be as simple as adding two small chairs to a bright and fun side table in your living room, to create a sweet little desk.

Maps/Wall Art

ApartmentTherapy.com; Babble.com

Maps not only look great on your walls but can serve as educational tools as well. Let the geography lessons begin!

Classic Rocker

DesignSponge.com; TheMarionHouseBook.com

Any kind of classic rocker is an obvious choice to bring into the nursery for those quiet bedtime stories.

Pouf/Ottoman

TheMarionHouseBook.com; Ohdeedoh.com

Putting your feet up is something as parents we all need to do so roll your pouf in front of your rocker, sit back and enjoy with the cuddle time with your little one.

Rugs

PappasMiron.com; Design-Crisis.com

One more option for today, add layers to your design by pulling in one of your patterned rug. It will bring character to your decor as well as serve as a soft surface to play on.

There you have it, your nursery design can be stylish and also eco-friendly.

What items have you repurposed and brought into your baby’s room? Do you have any “Before & After” you would like to share? Let us know!

Your post is really relevant! I have just brought home a new little girl who has moved into what used to be her big brother's nursery. We are searching for ways to "girlie" it up and make it a room to stay as she won't have the luxury of changing rooms like her bro. I love your tips! Oh, and I love the little brown owl in one of the nursery pics... I have to know where it comes from!

Hi Sophie-Anne, the photo with the little brown owl in it is from a home tour on the blog, The Marion House Book. The link is below the photo. You can ask the editor of that blog if she can find out for you as to where it comes from.
