Gerard Butler's theatre room, from Architectural Digest
While we here at HGTV recognize and wholeheartedly embrace the fact that you can't please all of the people all of the time, I will admit that a few giggles were had when we passed photos of actor Gerard Butler's Manhattan loft around via office email. It's just so ornate and faux-finished and...brown. It doesn't feel like a home as much as a movie set. Maybe even a movie set within a movie set.
OK, enough snarking. Mr. Butler loves it as he should -- it took four years working with architect Alexander Gorlin and film designer Elvis Restaino to complete the 3,300 square foot loft. (Wait, film designer? That explains so much). And it was featured by a shelter tome we deeply respect, Architectural Digest.
I decided to throw it out to our Tweeps and Facebook fans to see what the consensus was. Best Homes News had more photos, which gives you a better idea of the whole space. And you know what? It's about 60/40. 60% say it's too much; 40% think it's A-OK. See some of the comments for yourself:
