Question of the Week: Lakefront Cottage or Farm House?

We sent July off with a wrap-up post and welcome (not really -- too soon!)) August with our love for that last jaunt to a recreational property

Sounds so official.  But that's what they are, aren't they? Not quite vacation properties, because to those one usually has to fly, but properties within driving distance; cottages, cabins (for you West Coasters) fishing lodges, farmhouses and ski-town time-shares -- properties where you partake in recreational activities like canoeing, fishing, skiing, sleeping and beer drinking.

I don't know about your crew, but half of our office is off at a recreational property for some part of August, and for those who can't, we'll do our best to rub it in by talking all about it :)

But seriously, there are many things to be said about recreational property decor (I'm going to hate writing 'recreational property' for the rest of the month, I can already see it), but before we can even get there, I have one very important question to ask you to kick-start this month's theme:

Lakefront cottage or Farm House?

Take a poll my friends, and tell me which you would rather (not have to maintain) love to have as your drive-to getaway?

Stay tuned for all things Cottage & Camping on HGTV.ca and foodnentwork.ca for the whole month of August.

I love the water. Lake front cottages are THE best part about living in Ontario.

If  we are talking ownership and provided both are winterized, I would opt for a Lakefront Cottage as it  wud offer the best of both worlds.  (Land and water.)   Otherwise I am quite contented in having an inground pool with the luxury of convenience and to utilize the indoor/outdoor  recreational facilities which are abundant in our City  (Ottawa) that some of my tax dollars already  pays for.  :)    -Brenda-

Had my share of both, & while lakefront is beautiful, I opt for farmhouse that would, hopefully, be quiet, shady & good for long walks with the dogs.

I have been very fortunate as I have the best of both worlds--I have a 4 bedroom house on 30+ acres and only a 5 minute walk to a beach on a small lake.  I have never seen the sense in having to live in more than one place (too much hassle for me), so I have found a way to live in northern Ontario, a place that I've always felt at home in.

I would love to have a lake front HOME, not a cottage but a fully functional, winterized home on a lake with several acres to call our own. Preferably, the lake would be spring fed with an abundance of Walleye ie: pickerel. Being a prairie girl now living in Nova Scotia, the ocean is just too big. I need to see land on the other side. Eh, if a girl is going to dream, she might as well dream big. This is the retierment dream for my husband and I. On the water for sure.
