One of Vancouver’s favorite vintage furniture and home accessories stores has moved-on-up to the west side. Wow Interiors closed the doors of its downtown Pender Street location and opened up a shiny new shop in Kitsilano on 4th Avenue between Pine and Fir.
Wow continues to bring us their signature mix of mid-century Danish-modern furniture peppered up with a few new contemporary pieces that are just too good to pass by – like the Brown Jordan outdoor patio set I’m drooling over. A brushed stainless and glass table plus 6 upholstered chairs that was gently used on a penthouse deck for what looks like one dinner party to me, priced at $5500. An absolute steal since it’s $22,000 presently, at a well-known furniture store here in town. PS... they also have a couple of matching loungers that are wide enough for two to kick back in.
Great Danes? You bet. You’ll find iconic Danish teak furniture designers Børge Mogensen and Hans Wegner’s beautiful dining sets and coffee tables with chairs from the 60’s, all refurbished and recovered where necessary.
Eero Scarinen’s famed tulip chairs are sold here for $795 each (elsewhere they sell for about three times that.) For a smaller patio, or balcony, I found a so-chic-for-the-summer wrought iron with curlicues, round table and chairs, for $850, in white. Bring on the mint juleps.
Love art deco? A pair of club chairs with their original black leather is going for $1495 for the two, and is absolutely den-worthy.
Collectors will go gaga for the Gio Ponti lacquered ladder-back chair in bright orange with it’s woven straw seat, $1500, seen recently in the pages of Conde Nast Home and Garden magazine.
I’m a new fan of West German pottery, thanks to a quick tutorial by Richard, the husband of husband-and-wife team behind Wow. Not easy to find any more, I’m now coveting these statement-making vases in their vibrant burnt orange or cobalt blue, each about $395.
Nice neighborhood perk? Lots of meter parking out front, and a large retail space with plenty of roaming room.
