Kim Vallee is Back on Style Sheet: Office Desks for Small Spaces

Sometimes people lose touch -- it happens.  Well we weren't at all happy to lose touch with one of Canada's most respected design bloggers, Kim Vallee, of At Home with Kim Vallee, and so she's back!  We've asked Kim to do a monthly trend round-up for us here on Style Sheet, and today she kicks off with office desks for small spaces.  Welcome back Kim! We've missed you.

Finding an office desk that will fit with your home decor can be a challenge if you live in a small space. At least your options have increased since laptops became the norm...

Umbra

The delicate legs and the elegance of Umbra's  U+ Rolly desk designed by Matt Carr makes it an ideal choice for an open space condo unit. It features a convenient sliding storage compartment that will keep your office supplies out of sight.

Crate & Barrel

The Paterson desk by Crate & Barrel only measures 42 inches in width. Its single drawer has dividers designed for filing files, writing pads and smaller items.

IKEA

Consider a console table if your room is narrow or if you wish to divide your room with your desk. IKEA's BESTÅ BURS is long enough to be a workspace for two.

IKEA

When you think about it, a makeup table has all the components of a practical desk. The EDLAND dressing table, IKEA, could work in a bedroom, a vestibule or a living room.

Finding the right desk is the first step -- then, onto the right chair. Do not be shy to finish the area with punches of color added with desk accessories. I like the European flair of the Semikolon Office Collection available at Essence du Papier in Montreal and Toronto. The Desktop boxes and the Document boxes look very sharp on a shelf.

I love that umbra desk... I've seen it and it's quite sleek and elegant!

The Semikolon line is the best! You can also buy most of it at Vallahala Cards and Gifts on West Queen West in Toronto. I've been slowly buying the storage boxes and photo albums (they are a little pricey) and organizing all my (thousands) of photos in them.
