Sarah Richardson and Jann Arden to Divulge their Passions!

I’m sure I need not wax on about how much we love Sarah Richardson, but I will say that whenever her show is on, we here at HGTV.ca get plied with your questions: how is it that she’s soooo good at what she does? Why isn’t she designing a clothing line?  What makes her and Tommy laugh so much?

Well, here is your chance!  Häagen-Dazs ice cream will be launching a promotion on foodnetwork.ca, featuring hosts and celebrities talking about their passions.  Both Sarah Richardson and singer/songwriter and artist – yes she paints! – Jann Arden are on board and ready to talk.  The really fun part? You get to ask the questions!

Let’s hear them.  Think passion, people.  What makes Sarah and Jann tick?  What gets them out of bed in the morning? What would you like to know about these two very influential women?

Post your questions in the comments section below, and watch foodnetwork.ca for the scoop on Sarah, Jann and celeb hosts such as Anna Olson and Mark McEwen.  We'll make sure to keep you in the loop as well!

Sarah - What's usually your first inspiration point for a room to get you going in a direction?

I saw you and Tommy with film crew in store at Designer Walk in April....would have loved to ask a couple of questions as I am a decorator in Ottawa. Would that have been too much of an invasion....

Jann - Where do you find your inspiration for your music and your art?

July 5, 2010 4:02 PM

Sarah and Jann,

What do you wish you had known at the beginning of your careers that you ended up learning later on?

July 5, 2010 4:56 PM

Sarah, I am from the US and I caught your show by accident and I love it.  You have given me so much inspiration I just don't know where to start nor do I have the time to shop all over,  Then, I get so overwhelmed. What and where do you suggest I start

This is a question for both Jann and Sarah...What drives you and keeps you motivated?

July 6, 2010 1:21 PM

Sarah - How were you creative as a child?

July 6, 2010 1:23 PM

Happened to watch Sarah's show quite by accident and was floored (literally) by the perfect pitch/sense of style. I tape your shows, watching and rewinding constantly. I have learned so much, thank you for all the mistakes you have taught me to avoid in remodeling. Your lessons at the end of each episode are invaluable. If the devil is in the details and you have checkmated him, Sarah! Rather than another clothing line, would you consider putting out a book (or preferably a set of DVD's) with even more detailed explanations of why you do what your do in a project?

July 6, 2010 3:19 PM

For both:   Is there anything you've not yet done or experienced or anyone you're not yet worked with that you would have regrets about if you didn't at last try to make it happen?

July 6, 2010 3:21 PM

To Sarah - Love love love your shows!! My PVR is full!! We are wanting to redo a backyard with a pool and I want to put in an in-ground and my husband wants above (cheaper). Here in Montreal everyone has one or the other and us being from Vancouver thought we could live without one this summer and are sadly mistaken! For re-sale would you suggest one over the other? And we want to do new deck, fireplace, the whole bit - do you think it's worth it? And are you available to help or consult?

Thanks!!!

Jann, when you paint do you use acrylic or water color and how did you come up with the idea of painting onstage at shows and auctioning the painting for World Vision?

July 6, 2010 5:44 PM

Sarah----

I adore the Sarah/Tommy design team! In what ways do you guys keep each other in check with design decisions? Will there ever be a Tommy's House?

July 6, 2010 6:36 PM

Sarah...  what's next?  Will you be doing another Sarah's House?  Would you consider revovating a condo?

July 6, 2010 6:44 PM

Jann, I know that you have that great song "good mother" and you play it at the end of all of your shows. If you had to list only 3 characteristics of your good mother in order of importance ( in your mind) what would they be? I know that my mother has not always been the best mother to me but at this part of my life I know she has still been a "good mother" to me and I cherish her for that. She has shown me her support in these three ways. Love undeniable, heart and perseverance. My mum suffered for a long time with depression. She got herself out of it and I really admire her for that. I almost lost her when I was younger. I don't know what I would have done if I had. I am thankful for her and all that she is today and how she has been there for me. Maybe not in my early years but now as I am an adult... and now I understand her struggles better. You just don't when you are a teenager.

Thanks for your beautiful music and art, your thoughtful answers and great wit.

Ladies, with so much going in in your careers you are clearly both Type A personalities.   What do you do to turn your  work side off during your leisure time?

July 6, 2010 8:07 PM

Sarah    is there a designer who has influenced or inspired you?  Thanks.

July 7, 2010 1:44 AM

Hi Sarah

I absolutely love your work and hope to one day to win the lottery and have you & your team design a home for me, but wishful thinking aside, I'd love to know if you were an only child or do you have any siblings, and if so, are they as talented as you?

July 7, 2010 10:11 AM

Jann - who is your favourite Canadian artist?

July 7, 2010 1:20 PM

Sarah - what will your next series with Tommy be about?

July 7, 2010 8:35 PM

Jann - is the thrill for you in writing music you love, or having music you have written be loved by others?

July 7, 2010 9:58 PM

Sarah - I am a registered nurse and mother and find relaxation watching your shows (and your energy!).  I plan to remodel in a couple of years when I celebrate my 25th wedding anniversary and my last child heads to university.  I hope I can hire your team so you can create the relaxing environment I want.

I watch and record your show and watch it over and over and I learn something new each time!  We don't get your paint line Para Paint in California, but I called a Canadian Lowes and they sent me the entire array of your "favorite colors".  I'm in the middle of redoing my kids bathroom and using your line for inspiration. I sure wish you could help me redecorate my family room, that's next on my agenda.  My husband and I just completed a 2yr renovation in our kitchen, we did it all ourselves.  Any way, I LOVE watching your show and I love Tommy too!!

I love Sarah and Tommy. Can't wait to see what's next. Since so many people have tract homes, would you ever consider redoing one of those? It would be interesting to see what you could do with a 'cookie cutter' home to make it your own.

Kids are in bed, spouses asleep, pets settled for the night, no pressing work issues. You are not tired yet. How do you spend your time?

July 10, 2010 11:30 AM

Sarah,

Please do a book of "Sarah's house".   It would look great on my coffee table, and maybe inspire some decorating too!

July 10, 2010 6:28 PM

Sarah,

You are so talented and I love all your shows.  You had a Christmas special last year and made some beautiful stockings for your sweet little girls with a sewing machine.   What make/model was this sewing machine and could you recommend a good machine that sews just about everything.

July 12, 2010 1:11 AM

Sarah,

Have you ever designed sets for the theatre, movies, sitcoms or dramas.
