I know that 'antiques' and 'bargains' in the same sentence is a bit of a stretch but you know I'm bad at bargains. Point is, you go looking for a bargain, and bargaining is something you do at antique fares, so I think I'm ok.
Ontario's big mother of a market, Christie Antique Show, passed about a month ago, and the Muskoka show just last weekend, and ever since I've been on a tear for more. I'm addicted to the hunt, and my husband is at his wits end because the basement is running out of space.

To get my fix I make off to the Aberfoyle show, just south of Guelph, ON, every other Sunday, (it's on every Sunday for the summer months.) And look what I got: grain sacks! Or feed bags as they are also known. At $65 a piece, they were indeed a bargain, as they usually they go for about $85-$90 USD.
These are an iconic staple of farmhouse chic -- yes, there is such a thing -- at once bringing a little rustic romance to your space. They're incredibly durable and are usually adorned with the family monogram as well as the farmhouse traditional red or blue stripe. People have made them into cushions, runners, upholstered chairs with them, made them into handbags, and who know what else (just Google 'grain sack' and enjoy.)
Mine are bound for outdoor floor cushions. Because they were meant to hold heavy, coarse grain, they can handle pretty much anything.
Also, to get you in the antiquing mood (perhaps I'll see you at Aberfoyle this Sunday?) here's a gallery of my favourite finds from Christie Antique Show.
Enjoy!
