This past Wednesday, Canada’s most lavish retailer, Holt Renfrew, opened the concourse of its Bloor Street store to the wildly popular photographer/blogger, Todd Selby.
Hard to believe the world at large has really only known Todd Selby since 2008, the year his interiors 'who's who' website launched. His name as artist, graphic designer and style photographer is on par with others who've had to work for this kind of fame for decades.
TheSelby.com is Todd Selby's beautifully photographed portfolio of friends and creative bright young things from all over the world. What sets Scott Selby apart from a zillion other cool hunters and interior photographers is his diaphanous approach to capturing his subjects. Instead of decorative, controlled, owner-less shots of homes, The Selby takes a transparent took at each dweller, marrying their style, originality and creative profile to the feature of their home. He also arts it up with quirky, folksy captions and sketch-essays that have been the subject of some cultural satire...

Praise for his unique eye spread like wildfire among the world's creatives, turning the tables from Todd hunting down people and their homes to people and their homes banging on Todd's door, to get in line for their beauty shots. Back in February The Selby is in Your Place was published and released in major book stores and retailers (read review by foodnetwork.ca's resident blogger, CJ). This past Wednesday, Todd Selby came to Toronto to spread some autographs, and our own Jennifer Myers of Real People Living in Condos was there!
"Besides being fashionable, creative and surrounded by famous friends, Selby is also in demand. I arrived at noon expecting pandemonium, but instead was faced with around twenty or so, twenty-something girls in chic clothes and four inch heels, most were toting Holt’s bags.-- I guess Toronto has yet to catch up to Selby mania. The space was lovingly decorated with photo montage screens and scribbled walls in Selby style, with mostly Canadian quips. And Todd? Super friendly and very approachable!! Stuck a sticker in every book and even wrote a personalized note" says Jennifer.
