Art for Mom's Walls: Help Pick the Right One!

Existing wall art (above)

Option 1

Option 2

Continuing on the mom train, I bring you the latest from my parents' house.  I say "mom's walls" in the title because my father always gets vetoed on anything he has to say, and trust me, it's not for nothing.

Since the kitchen remodel, my mother has been on a bit of a tear to give the house a facelift. As I mentioned at the beginning of Mom Month, I think my mother gets A+ for style, but wall art is really a delicate issue.  She's looking to switch up the '80s-but-looks-remarkably-like-'30s fashion illustration I chose for them back in high school, and though I don't regret it, I agree it has to go in 2010.

It just so happens my husband had a showing of his photography recently, and my mother has her heart set on two water landscapes (which look very similar, but not exactly the same as pictured in the photos) from the series.

I am kind of at a loss as to what size/how many/if at all we should be hanging them, and my husband, my mother, myself, and of course my father, all have different opinions.  Could you please help us choose?  Which treatment do you like best? Do you prefer the old poster, or should we go back to the drawing board altogether?

Help!

I don't think these Photo shopped mocks do your husband's photography justice.  That being said.. I would choose option 3, looks most balanced. Maybe a frame would help.

Love your mom's chairs. :)

I spy a cute reflection of Mama and Babe in photo number 1! Too sweet. I'm voting for option 2 because I think those pieces are most impactful in a grouping, enticing the viewer to seek out the subtle differences between them. Will be lovely!

Ha!  I was gonna say, spot us if you can...and you have.  Yes, I was going to mention that they will be framed.  Judging by the votes however, it seems people are not having any of it!  Oh well, I'll just have to ask them all to trust me.

I think option 2 is the way to go - one large picture overwhelms the room, in my opinion.

Re placement, definitely not the first or the second layout.   Too symmetrical in my opinion.   'Think' I might opt for something that gives the eye a rest  and not so in alignment with the objects flanking it.   Unless I had a very pretty ceiling, I would prefer the sofa and the artwork to be related as one composition.

(Hope that makes sense.)  :)     -Brenda-
