Discuss: Sarah's House Episode 10, Exterior/Finale, Plus A Bonus Room!

Five months, 1500 square feet of added space, over $1.2 million spent in total...what did you think of the finale, Sarah's House fans? Do you agree with Tommy that the farmhouse is Sarah's "best work ever"? I have to admit, I wasn't sure she would turn a profit on this project once the $739,000 reno budget was revealed, but of course I was wrong. The final appraisal had to be higher than $1,239,000 and...drum roll please...the result was a price tag between $1.3 and $1.5 million, with Toronto-based agent Kara Reed admitting she'd put the house on the market for $1,550,000.

I promised you a bonus room, and you've got it -- the addition has a basement that didn't appear on the show, but we have the photo! Visit the episode gallery to check it out, it's Sarah's signature style (and her favourite colour).

No need to go through Sarah Richardson withdrawal, however. You can watch all three seasons of Sarah's House online, as well as Sarah's Cottage and classic episodes of Design Inc. And coming to HGTV next year will be Sarah's new show; she gave us the scoop in a video interview at her Para Paint Designer Palette event a few weeks ago.

Vito, I'm sorry I neglected to complement you as well. Where would the project be without a competent contractor. Managing the trades is no easy job, but you do seem to pull it off without a hitch. Ah! editing! Regardless, the results speak for themselves. I do learn alot from watching you, Tommy and Sarah. Thank you.

So, Sarah got paid a tonne by HGTV to film this, plus she got to spend the time she was paid for renovating her many personal properties?  So that is a double profit of....drumroll please.....2 million bucks.  And us suckers just watched her do it.

I love Sarah and Tommy, I think they are brilliant at what they do, and I love the show, but I am going to keep bringing up the fact that Sarah is paid to renovate her own house.  That's like me getting paid to watch hockey at home, or fix my car, or...well, you get the idea HGTV.  Maybe I'm just jealous, but I could do a heck of a re-model on my own home if HGTV would pay me to do it.  In fact, I bet I could do it even better than Sar-bear here.

Just one more comment.  I have noticed that on some of the programs, where "random" people are selected to have their home renovated for free, the "random" people selected are actually friends of the shows producers or main actors.  A little bit of Canadian nepotism showing up again.

OK, Profit - there is no reason to slam Sarah & her show. No one is forcing you to watch it. Sarah has a business - people are in business to make money. She uses her craft to make a living. Do you not work to make money - everyone I know does. But then again there are those that don't - some for the wrong reason. Good thing Sarah is in a position to ignore ridiculous comments such as yours. She probably pays enough taxes to support many who don't and/or who won't work. So get over it......... and go watch some other show.

I have to half agree with "Profit".  I find it indulgent  and self serving . Sarahs House, Sarahs Cottage.  Why doesn't Sarah design peoples homes that hire her to do so instead of watching her do her own properties and getting paid to do so.  I personally don't want to see that so I don't watch.  Just thought the producers might like to know that.  Other that that I have seen Sarahs work on other shows such as Oprah and did like what she accomplished.

Sarah is paid for two roles here: an investor & a designer.  She bought and renovated her own property for an appreciation in value, just like Peter Falico in Home to Flip, which is a risk-taking venture.  Then, she is compensated for her brilliant design flair, which has commanded many who religiously followed her and businesses which marketed their products through her.  If you have the capital to buy a property as interesting and the talent to generate the same level of influence, I think you can go ahead & apply to HGTV for a show as well.   Actually, another role she was paid for was a pleasant & appealing presenter with charism on TV.  At the end of the day, many just feel "entertained" by watching her!!

I really miss Jimmy.  He was interesting, odd but very pleasant and even knowledgeable.

I will of course miss Sarah & Tommy... we have to wait until NEXT FALL for another show?

Not impressed with some whiner who is jealous of another persons success and talent.

I loved the farm house.. it should have been an our long and could have used at least two other episodes.

The camera shots are frustratingly fast as you can't get a good look at what she has done.  The flow at times was confusing.  Walk us through it.  No one ever discussed the OTHER door in the entry that I assume goes out to another small deck.

Thank goodness for the online video where you can pause and check things out.

I agree we all watched Sarah build her cottage and a couple of house's

gets to be a little much.

May 13, 2010 3:11 PM

Wow...Sarah spent $1,239,000 on this house, it could list between $1.3 and $1.5+ million and the master bedroom doesn' t have an ensuite.  She designed and built the addition herself, so not like she didn't have the opportunity....$2300 for a headboard??...I'd rather have my own bathroom (and yes I know a bathroom is more than $2300 but money could have been budgeted more wisely) and not have to share with children/guests....the guest bedrooms have a better deal with their bathroom...only 2 bedrooms sharing a bath - master has to share with 2 kids bedrooms....at that listing price it should have its own ensuite.

Is this farm for sale? and where is it?

BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Sarah is an inspiration to me, though I don't always agree with what she does... but that's personal style and opinions for you! We are not all the same, and most likely, we will not all agree on everything.

All in all, she does a kick-butt job and she knows what she's doing, and get this: she is self taught! She didn't even go to school for Int Des - talk about wonder woman!

The thing I like about her programs is that they ARE different. Room Service, Design Inc, Sarah's House, and soon (not really) to be expected : Sarah 101... AND a book!

What a busy woman! Such diversity...

I am looking to see what she can pull on realistic budgets in Sarah 101.

My greatest request : a tonne of pictures and a floor plan of her personal house. I've seen the exterior and a few interior shots from her holiday party, but I would love to really see it.

Mid Century Modern is my favorite.

And lastly... thank you Sarah, Tommy, HGTV, Prima Visa.. and everyone inbetween for a great way to procrastinate my studying :)

I have been living and working in the country all my life, which is to say, for the last 50 years. I would be extremely interested in knowing what the local realtors reaction was and what they thought this 50 acres was worth. Since it is a 'hobby' farm and not a real functioning farm, Sarah probably will get her million and a half for it. In reality, when someone buys land in the country, that is exactly what they are looking for, LAND. There is no way a farmer would spend that much money on a farm house. Not to say that it isn't beautiful, because it is. I'd love to live in it, I think Sarah and her team do a fantastic job on anything they attempt.  I'll take away a lot of great ideas for this 160 year old house, thanks Sarha

Re all the 'positive' comments.....DITTO!    I enjoyed this Season watching Sarah and her associates work their magic.

THANKS gang!     -Brenda-

Again Sarah and Tommy have brought in a great show. It is wonderful to sit and watch her pull colors and designs I would never get.

A little tired of the ranting of Profit in this comment section. What a jealous spitful person.

I will continue to watch Sarah and look forward to her show in the fall.

I loved the new show, the farmhouse ended up looking like what I dream I would get if I won the lottery. And the cottage. And the house in the city.  In fact, if I ever do win the lottery, I will be calling Design Inc., asking for Sarah and Tommy to do my homes. And I tape on my PVR Design Inc as well, and I am proud to say I have watched those episodes about 10 times each. I have learned from everyone. Thank you Sarah and please continue to be on TV and in my favorite style magazines.

Sarah should purchase the property at 141 Prospect St in Newmarket - an old Victorian just waiting to be saved by Sarah for $239,000!
