well Sarah..it is gorgeous...your colours are so bold and great...you are mixing the fabrics, the design and I just love it...you give me great ideas I just need the will to do it...almost all my stuff is second hands..but with so much potential...thank you and have a great day...I can't wait to see the cheminy...(or cheminey)

I'm continually surprised by Sarah's version of country... so much bolder than her other work! I loved the quilt she used as a jumping point for this room. And the chair fabric? Beautiful! The room is very warm and comforting... reminds me of autumn {and harvest time!}

May 5, 2010 3:13 PM

I personally love  the host of patterns  and fabric blends that Sarah chose for  throughout the room and Tommy's suggestion of sumptuous layered  linens.   Verrrry lux!!!!!

The quilt, bed and  two chairs are fab, however being a hobby Sewer and DIYer  must admit my knee-jerk reaction was .....OUCH..... to the (total) cost of the chairs coming in at $4,000.00.

Loved all the layering of fabrics except for the ikat on the curtains and that chenille-looking lumbar pillow on the bed. Ick!

I am happy to see the english country theme used throughout the house and especially the terracotta+creams+ green (or sometimes blue) palate. Traditional is best!

May 5, 2010 5:13 PM

I want to stay in this house and enjoy every inch of it!  Every room is such a departure from Sarah's previous work with the use of colour and style.  I love it.  I can't wait for the next series (please) to see where she (and Tommy) will take the vision next. Sarah is developing a whole new set of signature elements.  I like this room.  ( I loved the living room the most!)

May 5, 2010 6:43 PM

I thought the mutted yellow (buttermilk yellow paint) worked out in the end as it helped to ground the vibrancy and intensity of the bedrooms color scheme. If the walls were sunflower yellow it would have been to intense.

May 5, 2010 7:45 PM

I do NOT like the red striped pillow. I was disappointed she didn't repaint the walls the yellow that she really wanted. They just look washed out.

May 5, 2010 9:32 PM

I normally love most of Sarah's rooms  but I have to say I think she missed the mark on this one.  I like various elements of this room, and I think if the area rug and possibly the curtains were different I would like it a lot. But those two elements to me make the room mismatched-ugly. Sorry :(

May 5, 2010 10:15 PM

Not liking this room one bit! I actually don't like the decor of this country house at all  -  it's so not Sarah. The more I look at the picture, the uglier it is. Yuck!!!!!!!!!

May 5, 2010 10:41 PM

Country and lovely except for the area rug and curtains.  Both could be swapped out and the room would then look airy and relaxing.

May 6, 2010 1:16 AM

I've been with you Sarah up until this room.  Really don't like it as a master bedroom, it would be better as a living room.

May 6, 2010 8:12 AM

I would have painted the lamps that pale blue they were before the orange... otherwise I like this room.. I like where Sarah is going with this style actually... it is very refreshing... and it is making me reconsider some of my fabric ideas.

May 6, 2010 8:39 AM

ugh.

May 6, 2010 8:41 AM

When you go shopping with Tommy and pick out all those fabrics - you scare me - but when it is all put together - Wow it is so nice and perfect. I watch your program every week and video tape it in case I missed something. Cannot wait to see more

May 6, 2010 10:11 AM

Too much going on, the colours do blend but its not very appealing. To be honest its something that someone's grandmother would have in their room. What ever happend to luxury, and elegance.

May 6, 2010 11:02 AM

ugh...as well...

May 6, 2010 11:05 AM

Usually love everything Sarah does, but have to say that this room does not look like Sarah's usual style.

May 6, 2010 2:01 PM

I adore this house (I usually love most of what Sarah does) and couldn't wait to see the master.  I must confess, I do not love this room.  The pieces I really don't like are the quilt and the  bedside lamps.  I like everything else but those items are not appealing to me.

May 6, 2010 4:45 PM

Oh Sarah!!!!!!  Has the country air confused you?  I've been a fan since Room Service, and still am, except this master bedroom really disapointed me.  I think for 18,000.00 dollars I could have done a better job for much less money.   Take a deep breath (in the city) and you'll be okay.

Still love you and Tommy.  Hugs,  Sharon

May 6, 2010 5:43 PM

I agree with the ughs out there, really disappointed with the combos and the rich spending in times where we all need tips on saving money,... where is the old Sarah?

May 6, 2010 6:59 PM

Love it!  I agree with Sarah's comment, this is a bedroom to really wake up in - give me colour and vibrancy any day over beige, beige, beige.  This room certainly reflects the beauty outside my country window right now.

May 6, 2010 9:31 PM

I don't see anything that could be construed as country.  Maybe the quilt or the flooring.  The problem with this house is that practically every room was inspired by a piece of fabric.  Why?  Whatever happened to themes?  In this room, there are countless pieces of fabric that are competing with each other.  The curtain rods are hung too high.  It just looks ridiculous.  The bed is nice, but doesn't remind me of the country.  I don't think any country home has a Persian rug in it, either.  I don't get the sidetables or choice of curtains.  To me, the country reminds me of subdued yellows, greens, blues, and purples.  A big bed with a plain duvet, fresh-cut flowers in a watering can-turned-vase, and perhaps a water colour painting hung above an easy chair in front of a window dressed with white lace curtains.  If I went into this home as a potential home-buyer, this room would have turned me right off.

May 6, 2010 11:23 PM

I'm a huge fan, but I have to say this one seems a little off. I love the flowered fabric and was looking forward to more of it. I don't like the Ikat at all and the chennille is off. I'm glad to see the rug though. I remember you referring to a similar rug in an old series as "bossy". Now you're gettting the hang of using a classic rug! Also, I think you should have painted the lamps that teal in the flowered fabric.

May 7, 2010 10:14 AM

Bit too 70s cottage for me!

May 7, 2010 3:15 PM

I am a HUGE Sarah fan but she really missed the mark with this room. I loved the quilt 10/10 !! the rest of the room 1/10 really disliked all the fabrics.

Oh well, can't be perfect every time

May 7, 2010 9:30 PM

I feel there are too many colours and patterns in this room, feels discordent. The wainscotting treatment looks cheap and the greyish colour is unpleasant. I love the bed and it could have been a great jumping off point but the quilt and orange lamps? yuk. I think of my bedroom as an oasis and prefer a calm environment, orange and yellow ?, reserve it for a sunny reading nook or powder room...sorry.

May 8, 2010 8:18 AM

the only room i have liked so far was the entry way.  the whole house is a jumble of colours and fabrics and it is all just too much.  up until the farm, i have liked everything that Sarah created, and would glad have had her do anything for me, (if i could have afforded it).  I hope this is not becoming a trend for her,

May 8, 2010 2:32 PM

I think this room is bold and refreshing. Who said "purple?" Thank you Sarah for being you. I enjoy the ride you and Tommy take us on every week and I can't wait for the next house.

May 8, 2010 6:22 PM

I love Sarah/Tommy and the way they use of various patterns in one room.  It's nice to see colour, pattern and textures all come together.  I love colour and glad to see the all white trend fading.  This room is great, with exception of that crazy area rug.   I would like to see something more rustic and less pattern.   When's the house warming party Sarah?

May 8, 2010 7:25 PM

Oh no ..........what has happened to your taste Sarah !

I am  such a huge fan of you and Tommy,

but this time... your bedroom is i am sorry to say, in my opinion

.... no way ..this is just BAD ugly !!

May 9, 2010 1:36 AM

Reading these posts makes me laugh and a bit sad. This bedroom is really amazing! Sarah and Tommy's mix of color and pattern in a sophisticated way is what being a designer and creating a unique and beautiful room is all about. Almost anyone can match colors together and get a nice but boring and predictable room, but the beauty of this room lies in the layering of texture, color, pattern, the density of the oriental rug plays off the light and airy fabrics while the bedroll repeats the weightiness of the rug, the subtle repetiton of color brings down what could be, in less capable hands, too much. Many of you cannot see how the ikat pattern on the draperies pulls all of the colors in the room together, again creating continuity. The mix of furniture from rustic to sophisticated also shows how skilled these two are at putting together unique and beautiful rooms.

Some of you may not personally like this room but to say that it is not great design, deftly handled by skilled designers is totally incorrect!

May 9, 2010 9:02 AM

So Thomas, you are right and the dozens of people that wrote in are wrong???  If this house is geared toward selling, she missed the mark, buyers on the whole , will be turned off by the design.

May 9, 2010 10:57 AM

Well, it sure must be nice to get paid to renovate your own house.  Bad enough she gets paid to voice her opinions, which may or may not be accurate, but you let her renovate her own house?  For shame, HGTV, renovate someone's house who doesn't get paid big bucks to talk on tv.

May 9, 2010 11:49 PM

I must say that the majority of programs on HGTV, including this one, are of very high quality, very motivational and informative.  And yes, Sarah's show is no exception, she does a nice job of decorating her many houses and properties.  Just many underprivileged homes could be decorated instead.

May 10, 2010 11:12 AM

I was certain I was going to be the only viewer that said I didn't like it.  I adore Sarah's style, I love the show, love her instincts and even have enjoyed watching her do the country house.  Most of it has not been my style but I have been in awe, room after room as it came together.  The Master bedroom however, was an eclectic mix of dull for me.  The four poster didn't work, the wall color was too subtle and although the quilt was interesting, it did not work as a focal point for the room.  Keep going though Sarah, I love all the other rooms!

May 10, 2010 9:55 PM

i used to watch you years ago and loved all you did with various patterns/colors that always went well together. your rooms always looked sooo comfortable. i went to your living room, to get some ideas, i felt like i was on "what not to put together" so many colors of cushions, looks like a before

picture. i decided to look at this bedroom to see if your designs really did change so much or this was a one off. there are so many things i don't like most of which has already been said. my question is "are your producers making you do these ugly rooms, if not i ask that you go back to your roots. it is one thing not to be mixy matchy, but come on sarah, 100 patterns/colors in one room. the couches in your living room and 2 of the chairs look so hard, the kind of living room that gets roped off as no one would feel at home in it. let me know when the old sarah returns. big ugh on 2 fronts. maybe we aren't ready for this, if you want viewers you have to listen to our comments at least to some degree

May 10, 2010 10:45 PM

Since when did everyone become a decorator not to mention a critic? There is nothing wrong with this room. It may not be to everyone's taste but can we not step back and recognize for one minute that we are all individuals and what we surround ourselves with in our home should be what comforts us and no one else? The biggest thing that annoys me currently is the massive influence that HGTV has on people. Everything is so predictable and cookie cutter and often merely reflects what the advertisers and sponsors would like us to buy. Botanical prints, topiaries and sets of 3 cheap chotchkes lined up over a mantle piece or a shelf somehow inspire people to buy or sell a house. (Oh yes and did I forget to mention subway tile, drum lampshades and spa/hotel chic linens?) How utterly narrow and predictable we have reduced down the concept of interior decorating and design. I have never encountered so many decorator wannabes in my life and frankly it is really annoying. Thanks to the proliferation of decorating shows and Winner's and Homesense - everyone now thinks they are a bona fide decorator. What's worse is that people even believe it is okay to come into someone's home and think it is fine to make comments or rearrange people's furniture and artwork. Someone's home should always be a reflection of who they are and not a current trend because we always know today's current trend quickly becomes passé. Stick to what you love and who cares what anyone else may think.

May 11, 2010 12:59 PM

Very ugly!  What happened?

May 11, 2010 1:10 PM

While this room is not in my style, I can appreciate what Sarah and Tommy have done. The mix of patterns and colours creates a fresh vibrancy that is suitable for this house. For me, the only real discordance is the gray colour of the wainscoting. It seems jarring.

May 11, 2010 1:16 PM

Oh my. I hate haters... but I have to be honest and say that I, too, hated that room! Thomas, you sound like you read too many decorating books! Her undeniable skill aside, file this room under O for Oops!

May 11, 2010 4:27 PM

You are so on the mark, my friend Roo. Finally some smart talking people on this site!

May 11, 2010 7:05 PM

Personally I am getting a little tired of all these hosts building their own homes. or decorating their own homes (or those of friends). Sarah, get a life.

May 11, 2010 8:51 PM

If you ever want to do this room again, come to my home, I love the colors, the furniture and the cosiness of this room.

Big fan Marie-France

May 12, 2010 10:25 AM

So, why can't sarah renovate a house and make it perfectly yours...on a BUDGET? She's  not making the most of every penny. a 600k reno??? That's not very realistic for probably 99% of her viewers. Can she not renovate a house for $150k? Because that actually requires skill.

Sorry Sarah, I used to be a fan...but the Greenworks and Sears shoutouts in your episodes are so rehearsed and annoying. But I guess u need to get some  extra money from these companies to pay for ur $600K reno.
