There are very many fun and exciting things we the HGTV.ca team get to do, but all of it -- and this is from the heart -- is to bring you new ways in which to see to your home and garden.
One such expedition was our whirlwind tour of World Market Center Las Vegas, in which we got the opportunity to see what retailers see, when they go on buying trips. In a nutshell, the home furnishings industry works like this: there are trade shows that happen around the world where manufacturers gather to show off their wares, and retailers come from all over to guess at what they think we consumers will want to buy in the coming year.
Retailers travel extensively between Canada and US, and we Canadians receive them at a much smaller facility in Mississauga, Ontario, which is home to the Canadian Home Furnishings Market. Another show, one of the best-established, is called High Point and happens in High Point, North Carolina.
World Market Center Las Vegas however, is probably the biggest trade show facility in the world (don't quote me) and when they hold their bi-annual Markets, one in winter and one in summer (where a huge number of North American manufacturers set up temporary showrooms along side the permanent ones), it's BIG -- a great, if not somewhat overwhelming place to see what manufacturers think will be in demand.
And so, Jessica, Mia and I had us an extensive peruse of 5 million square feet of space (!) armed with flip cameras, and put together a little series called Trend Focus at World Market Center Las Vegas.
It's interesting to see how closely the trends we found at Las Vegas Market, mirror those we've been talking about for some time now, here on Style Sheet. Today we kick off with an overview of our tour, continuing through the next several weeks with focused segments on what you should look for to bring the different looks home.
Enjoy!
Stay tuned for a closer look at Glam at the World Market Center, coming this Wednesday!
