Bargain Satuday: Sunny Fabrics for Around $10/Yard

I'm taking a sewing class later this month. (I'm absolutely clueless about sewing machines!) So, I'm on the hunt for fabric for my class.

There are a some very good and very large fabric stores in or close to my neighbourhood, but it can be very intimidating. There's just so much to sift through. Instead, I took my search online and found a lot of affordable fabrics on Etsy.

I'm thinking I want to get something yellow. All these fabric finds are around $8 US/yard. If you buy a few yards, factor in shipping and exchange rate, it's a decent bargain at around $10/yard.

Top row: Heather Bailey's Pop Garden Pineapple Brocade fabric in Gold, Birds of a Feather Floral in Yellow, and Birds of a Feather Bird and Floral in Yellow

Middle row: Pocketbook Tangerine, Joel Dewberry: Nap Sack in Sunglow, and Patricia Bravo Shanghai Gold

Bottom row: Michael Miller: Quarter Dot in Sunny, Heather Bailey Nicey Jane Two Yard Set in Tangerine, and Valori Wells Urban Flannel Dots Mandarin Olive Fabric

Do you buy fabric? If so, where do you get it?

Where's a good place to take sewing classes? I love fabric but the sewing machine doesn't particularly like me. Any good suggestions for Canadian fabric stores? Online has some great stuff, but sometimes I like to have the tangibleness of fabric in front of me

Where are you located, Victoria? I'm in Toronto and there are a lot of places to take classes. My class is on the 20th so I'm not even sure if this place is good yet.

I've seen some of these fabrics in store, so I think if you've got your eye on something, it might be worth an online search to see if you can get a better deal.

Good Morning, I am trying to find out if the material Sarah Richardson keep referring to on the ads is available somewhere. It is YELLOW, with Flowers, Bee's, and Butterfly's on it. Any information would be appreciated. Thank You

Karen, you can get the Shopping Guide for each episode of Sarah's House by visiting hgtv.ca/sarahshouse. Click on Episodes and you'll see a list, just choose the episode you're looking for. I believe the fabric was from the Main Bathroom episode. Cheers, HGTV.ca
