Discuss: Sarah's House Episode 4, The Kitchen

Sorry for the delay, we were experiencing some technical difficulties this morning. Were you glad to see the kitchen makeover so early in the season? I love a kitchen reno, and we know you all do as well. And when it's Sarah Richardson's farmhouse kitchen, you know it's going to be good. So what did you think? I loved the numbered stairs, the vintage woodwork and the use of yellow. I know there was some debate on the blog recently about when to use yellow, but I think a farmhouse kitchen just begs for it.

You can find out where Sarah bought everything you see in the Shopping Guide and scroll through the episode photo gallery. If you missed it, or you just want to see it all again, watch the full episode online now.

And, of course, we're live blogging every Tuesday at 9pm ET and keeping it open for an extra hour, so you can discuss the show directly afterward in case you don't happen to watch TV with your laptop nearby. See what people had to say about last night's episode and add your thoughts in the comments below.

Why not take to cabinets all the way to the ceiling - that small space casts a shadow and looks like it would be impossible to clean.  Also the stand alone cabinet by the two chairs (not shown in photos, but in the episode) is just far enough away from the wall to trap dirt.  Just curious about the decisions on the spacing...

As always - Sarah leaves a sense of calmness to her designs. My dream would be to have her do my home. Great job!

Making the kitchen bigger was and is a great idea! Kitchens are the heart of a home. Seems that in every house you go to, everyone congregates in the kitchen. There is nothing like a big farmhouse kitchen. My kitchen is small, but it doesn't stop company from packing into it.

Your colours are great! Can't wait to see what you do with your next room.

Nice job, Sarah. Our kitchen is yellow too, but not quite as extravegant as yours! Love the country accents too. (Old signs and lighting).

I thoroughly enjoyed the " kitchen" episode, but I do have one question. If there is not already a gasline  into the farmhouse then why did Sarah put a gas stove in that place?I grew up on a farm and if you did not have a gasline into your house, you either used electric or a wood burning stove in the kitchen.

totally agree with kate. why leave the space at the top of the cabinets??  otherwise, it looks great.

As usual Sarah didn't disappoint, however I too wonder about the void between the cupboards and ceiling.

The ceiling fixtures are wonderful!!!!!!!

We were thinking of doing an island like that, but you mentioned it was large. Can we access a to-scale drawing?  What's the purpose of the backsplash feature on the island, wouldn't it be more functional with a flat open surface?

1x4's (too small?) & crown moldings on top of cupboards would fix that space, very much like our last house--we miss that kitchen.  If the ceiling is uneven I'd put up the moldings first and outline the difference on the 1x4, then connect the pieces.

Love the kitchen and abosolutely love the Yellow! The whole kitchen look is clean, warm and inviting.  I'd come over anytime!
