Exclusive Video: Rod and Nat's Blingy, Chef-y Kitchen, and Some Comedy

Kitchen and first floor, "After"

Only one episode left people!!!  I am going to miss Hot Rod and cutie pie Nat...  Will have to bug Rod through Twitter every once in a while (you should bug us through Twitter as well -- follow!)

Whadja think of the kitchen and first-floor layout?  Interesting I say...  LOVE the kitchen, love the dining nook, but not sure I'd do those chairs right where they are.  But I guess Rod needed to have that mammoth wine fridge within seated reach...  In any case, did I mention that Alicia and I had the best time hanging out with our newlyweds -- for three hours?!

Kitchen "Before"

You know how you can tell it was three hours?  At the beginning of the following clip you can see it's daylight outside, and by the end, where I try my hand at a shameful intro, it's pitch black!  I don't know how I thought that intro was going to work anywhere in the video, when quite obviously, the time of day does not match the chronology of the tour. Nerd! (Or the opposite, I guess...)

Well, no matter.  Rod and Nat are always fun to watch.  See Rod's confession about his serious kitchen, and do enjoy some of the comedy that follows.

Next week, after the finally, the love birds tell us how they met, and I try to give Nat some parting advice on labour.  Don't miss it!  Oh, and don't forget to join us for the final live blogging of Marriage Under Construction

K so i would love to know the store they bought the recycled wooden shelves at. Looked more like a huge barn but either way i am intrigued!

Hi Christine, the wood shelves and tables are from timelessmaterials.com

I agree, I absolutely love the wooden shelves.  Is there any way you can tell me what paint colour was used in the kitchen?  The colour looks phenomenal with the light and dark accents.  Very modern.

I really like the kitchen light! Can you tell me where you found it?

okay, does anyone else see a trip happening on the rug??? And white!  White fur rug for a kitchen floor (shaking the head).  See who's laughing after the red wine gets spilled.  Egad!  It's great to have a designer look, but I think common sense is the most needed thing in this kitchen layout

Hmmm where did my original comment go about the Marriage Under Construction Episode of the Kitchen Part 2 is not working properly!!!

It links to Part 1.  I also sent in an email early this morning and it is still not fixed.  It was put up last night but is still linked to part 1.

Such a bummer.

Hi Pamela,

Great point on the rug, BUT this one is actually a hide hair rug, which is 100% stain resistant.  I'm not sure if you're familiar with them, but basically spills, including red wine wipe right off the hide.  I

n fact, the rug in the image is mine.  Theirs was a few days late and I leant mine to finish the room in the mean time.  The rug you see, all white and perfect has had MANY red wine accidents as I've had it for 3 years now.

The colour is called Grey ghost, and in truth is a pale grey, with mid toned grey throughout, not a true white.

Also, as it's a hide rug, it has no pile and poses no trip hazard.  It's also positioned out of walkways, and rather to the side only used as a sitting area.

Hope that appeases the head shaking.

Hi Danny,

That light is from Elte.  It was on sale ;).  Speak with Meghan Smith at Elte, she has all of the specs and is my go to rep.

Hi Danielle,

The paint colour is Farrow and Ball, pavilion grey.  I'm in mad love with it.  Honestly the nicest mid toned grey I've ever used.

Their paints run a bit more expensive, but are clay based, so 100% VOC.  The clay base also gives tremendous depth of colour and allows for a matte finish with durability equal to eggshell by others.

oops - I meant 100% VOC free!  NO VOC's.

I love the under-the-counter refrigerator drawers. It's worth mentioning that they're more energy efficient than comparable volume uprights because less cold air spills out when opened.
