Makeover: A Warm Kitchen Transformation from the HGTV Archives

The Style Dept. kitchen

This kitchen originally appeared on The Style Dept., a currently off-air show that followed home editor Suzanne Dimma through a makeover and magazine photoshoot. This kitchen was cramped and cluttered making it a difficult place for the homeowner's family to congregate.

The layout was adjusted so that the fridge you see jutting out in the corner of the photo above left is now flush with the rest of the shelves and appliances in the room, opening up the space and allowing for some kitchen seating courtesy of the homeowner's existing wood bench. (Seen below in the before photo.) The new cabinets retain the warmth wood can lend to a room but with a much more modern look. And the new stainless appliances create a more seamless look.

Although I have to say that I love the rug used in the dining room, it obviously wasn't the best fit for the space and the mix of bright red chairs and wooden bench just isn't working that well. Suzanne created a festive focus wall with some bright painted stripes and replaced the old table and chairs with a charming but practical country-inspired wood table.

Hi Vanessa, I hope you can help me with a surprise wedding gift for my fiance.

She read that Holmes on Homes was using a chain link or necklace link chandelier in one of his episodes and loves the idea and thinks it would look great in our new home.

Did you hear about this and if so can you provide me with the store details of where I can purchase it?

Thank you, Jack
