PARA Paints recently released 15 trend colours for 2010 to the media. Not one to keep such decorating gems a secret, here they are so you can get a head start on your spring redecorating.
Brights
As we've mentioned on more than one occasion, turquoise is, as they say in the fashion world, the new black for 2010. No surprise then that Cleopatra is the colour that instantly caught my eye on the PARA palette. But if you're not an aqua fan, there are other brights for you to covet. Freshly Squeezed is a happy yellowy orange and maybe it's just the name, but I feel like it would be cute in a breakfast nook. Huntley Green is a nice compromise because it's both bright and grown-up.
Neutrals
Just like the trend towards lingerie, nudes and neutrals on the runway, the creamy, use-anywhere shades have made it onto PARA's list. Taking the runway trend quite literally, I can imagine Out For A Stroll and Chocolate Mousse in a sophisticated boudoir or dressing room, while Village of Yorkville and Simmering Pots would look lovely in a traditional dining room with elegant white trim.
Bold
Walkin' in the Rain and Tartan are for adventurous types or those who just love deep, full-pigment colour. Red isn't actually as bold or scary as you might think -- see it in Franke James' artsy dining room in a home tour from last month. I personally, would love a black accent wall. I'll admit that I'm not sure which room it would suit but one day when I figure it out, I'll paint and share with you.
Pastels
At first glance, Paisley, Beach Tote and Change Purse might seem a bit too Easter Bunny, but look again. Though you probably wouldn't be using all three in one space, these pastels are both cheerful and soothing, and soft without being overly feminine. I would imagine that most men would approve of at least Beach Tote.
Blues
An important trend for PARA this year, blue is also always a popular choice. Eternal Blue is a little more accessible than the harsher Walkin' in the Rain, Rip Curl is more modern than a traditional dusty blue and Pinstripe is pale enough to almost be a neutral but has just enough colour to keep it interesting.
