Gift Giving: Romantic Modern Art

Clockwise from top left: Hug Salt and Pepper Shakers ($30 US); Art Breaker Paperweight ($65 US); Miniature Heart Shaped Cone Chair ($255 US); LOVE Sculpture ($74 US)

I'm a huge modern art lover and I love to give and receive art on special occasions. Selecting the right piece of art for that special someone involves lots of thought, care and passion. If an art piece speaks to you and touches you, then chances are your beloved will receive it and appreciate it in a similar way.

For this Valentine's Day, I've scoured the internet for interesting and romantic contemporary art gift giving options and these are my favourite finds courtesy of Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art and New York's Museum of Modern Art. Some of these items can be functional (salt and pepper shakers and paperweight) or not, and that's the beauty about art - it's completely open to interpretation. I personally believe that art is timeless and always in style, so there definitely isn't any excuse for your gift not to be cherished, displayed or used all year round! ;-)

Would you enjoy receiving a piece of art for Valentine's Day?

I'm with you on this one, I think art always makes a great gift. But you need to make sure that the person you're buying for is into art otherwise it's a waste. I love the LOVE sculpture!
