While I know something of food, hence being responsible for the Food Network Canada blogs, I am completely lost when it comes to design. While I love and appreciate beautiful things, I just don’t know where to start. Luckily for me, I have my counterpart Elana Safronsky, wise in all things design, sitting right next to me to show me the way.
When I told Elana I wanted to be more design savvy, she gave me this book to review: The Selby is In Your Place. It’s full of impossibly beautiful photos of ridiculously gorgeous people and their fabulous homes in New York, Paris, London and Tokyo. If this book can’t get me interested in design and style, nothing will.
The background: The Selby originally started as a website where photographer Todd Selby posted photo shoots of his friends in their homes with an artist’s eye for detail: kitschy earmuffs, a giant black chair in the shape of a foot, a bowl of makeup applicator.
It also didn’t hurt that his friends happened to be creative, stylish types including Christian Louboutin, Karl Lagerfeld and Helena Christensen. Todd Selby began to receive requests from people all over the world who wanted their homes featured on the site. Soon The Selby website was receiving 35,000 unique visitors daily, which has led to the publication of a beautiful hardcover book.
The book: The Selby is in Your Place has compiled photos of 32 of his friends in their homes, some famous, some not, but everyone single one of them with a sense of personal style.

Highlights: From Bohemian chic to Zen minimalism, this book is a must for anyone who loves design. Both inspirational and envy-inducing, you’ll want to read this book over and over again.
You’ll like if: You are breathing. It’s hard not to fall under Selby’s spell, it’s that gorgeous.
