Live Blogging Tonight: Marriage Under Construction, Episode 5

Elana and I had the chance to tour Rod and Nat's in-progress home on Friday, and let me tell you -- these folks are lovely people. What you see on TV is just how they are, but they're even more warm and loving. They're such a happy couple and their home is going to be GORGEOUS. Stay tuned for our sneak peek videos from Marriage Under Construction coming soon!

On to tonight: Now that the engineer’s plans are complete and the materials have arrived, Melissa and Steve inform Nat and Rod that the load bearing beams are ready to be installed and it's time to focus on the interior. Melissa makes it clear to Rod that if there are any changes to the approved design layout, this is the time to speak up. Both Rod & Nat agree there are no changes and to move forward. While they're at yoga, they agree to keep their new baby news a secret until they tell their closest friends and family. This is a secret Rod has a difficult time keeping. After a visit to the neighbour’s, Rod then decides to make a construction change. Melissa nearly breaks down. Drama! They’re already behind schedule and these changes are escalating the budget. Rod, however, is unconcerned and throws Nat a surprise birthday party.

Rod's rude and crude comments and attitude really detract from the reno - not tyical of HGTV

I agree Rae.

Is this renovation free for them in this season? IN past seasons they showed what they had paid and contributed.

I feel for the designer.... Poor girl. She looked like she was going to cry. She has to go back to the drawing board and do it all over again. It takes A LOT of time to produce such good quality work! It's too bad they don't show a bit more of what's going on on her side....

Rod and Nat are awesome though :)

Go Rod - NL rocks! Just would like to see you mention NL more!

I was upset!  typically you all don't get to see it on camera tho :)

plan changes like this require back to the drawing board on layouts and pricing but also structural drawings and building permits.  This was a massive issue for our budget and timeline.   I sucked it up a few minutes later.... the result now is amazing.  I think you'll all agree Rod made a good call.

ps. I've not put any projects up on our brand new website, so any walmart comments must be refering to some other poor designer.  YDF's photo gallery will be coming soon!

pps.  Rodney and Natalie - best clients, nicest people, can not say it enough.

i don't think this program is very "real" because couples renovating their house have budgets in mind and money is a Major factor and it is never even mentioned in this show.

Felt a bit sorry for the designer however she is a professional and can and should carry her own. Overall her work seems good and sharp but very predicatable.

Contractor seems good.

Couple sloppy and unlikable.

This house looks wonderful and the couple super down to earth, relateable and believable. Designer seems really organized and in tune with everyone . I think the contractor seems like a cowboy. Is this a Canadian show? Maybe even a Toronto show? Everything look so familiar. Was the contractor on style by jury? I think he had a makeover a reality star in the making.
