Makeover: Wishful Thinking From Sarah's Cottage

That's the master bedroom deck space and the dining room/kitchen, before.

January: It's cold, it's grey and spring still seems far off. Boo. Lucky folks who can afford a vacation get to leave the country while the rest of us have to dream. And who's better for dreaming than Sarah Richardson? Her off-the-grid cottage was the focus of her appropriately titled series, Sarah's Cottage, and the transformation was astounding. Shall we take a stroll down memory lane?

Clockwise from top left: the rooftop deck, master bedroom, lounge and kitchen.

Two of my favourite rooms were the master bedroom with a rooftop deck and the kitchen/lounge/dining area. But really, the entire cottage is gorgeous. And since I'm looking out my office window at a snow squall as I write this, I hope these photos help your day feel just a little bit warmer.

Makeovers appear every Thursday on Style Sheet

I love watching Sarah and her husband and Tommy decorate the cottage. Sarah was the reason i first started watching HGTV and now i am hooked and leave it on all the time. Sarah has changed my ideas about decorating and I have even started a few projects like making my own lamps and recovering chairs, this summer I stripped and sanded my whole bedroom set. I love the stores she shops in and her unique finds. She has inspired me so much, I am planning on taking some interior decorating courses just too learn more.

Sarah you rock !!!!

I wud love to be in a position to hire Sarah as she is one Canadian Interior Designer  I would hand over my keys to and say "go for it, I'll see you in eight weeks....or whatever it takes."  :)   The Cottage Reno was fabulous!

(Another favourite of mine is Candice Olson who to me is a Magician with lighting.)   -Brenda-

I agree with you there Alicia, the kitchen/lounge/dining gets the tick of approval... but I also adore the east and west rooms along with the main bathroom.  So you could say I'm a fan of the ground floor :)

I was wondering if Mike Holmes would come to Clare,Michigan!!  I'd like Mike to give my contractor a piece of his mind.  Problem is he's my husband.  He built our house in 1993.  Bill and I married in 2001.  I'm wife #3.  We put an addition near our kitchen 5 years ago that has an unfinished office, kitchen cupboards, and laundry area.  Bill just had total knee replacement in Nov.09 and he's suppose to get his other knee done in Mar.2010.  He is so limited to what he can do right now, and Mike's show makes me get tears in my eyes the way he makes peoples dreams come true.  We sure could use a hand Mike, the doctor said he probably won't be able to get down on his knees.  We're trying to decorate our home in a rustic theme but all major renovations have been put aside.  I've been living with his ex-wifes decor scheme for 9 years.  HELP!!
