Hotel Tour: Opus Hotel and Koko Restaurant, Montreal

Ah, j'adore Montreal! On a trip just before the holidays, I was invited to stay at the stylish Opus Hotel in the Plateau neighbourhood. Opus is a boutique hotel that first opened in Vancouver's Yaletown neighbourhoood (see Elana's hotel room tour video). The Montreal location opened in 2007 when they bought out a previous, Yabu Pushelberg-designed space attached to a heritage building from 1914 -- it was the first poured concrete residential building in North America and as you can see in the photo above, the juxtaposition of new meets old makes for an attractive building indeed.

I chatted with Katherine S. Evans, VP Opus Hotels and she gave me a tour of the hotel's Koko Restaurant + Bar, which has quickly become a hot dining destination (see my review on foodnetwork.ca). The restaurant, along with Suco Resto-Lounge (the nightclub downstairs), were designed by Vancouver's Robert Bailey. Check out the video below.

And, of course, I shot a room tour as well with our trusty Flip camera. The rooms are modern, bright and spacious, with large glass showers and soaker tubs (in some rooms). The location is convenient for shopping, eating and general gorgeous people watching. I recommend Opus Montreal if you're a fan of boutique hotels and good design -- the staff is unpretentious and the space offers a true getaway feel.
