Question of the Week: Exotic Vacation Home or Country House?

From left: Home buyer in Paris; France, Punta Cana, Domincan Republic, both from House Hunters International; Guest room; Cottage exterior, both from Sarah's Cottage.

My boyfriend and I have always had this plan to one day buy a house in the country but we've been watching a lot of House Hunters International lately and have begun to question our real estate fantasies.

Do we want a country house in Canada or would we prefer a cozy villa in Belize? Things to consider: travel time, travel cost, climate.

I have to say that despite the obvious cost and inconvenience, the exotic villa is the front runner. What about you? Would you prefer a cozy country house or an exotic getaway spot?

I LIVE in my cozy country home. It's great except for all the driving ... my real estate fantasy is a little pied-a-terre in the city I work in.

I'd choose a pied-a-terre in Manhattan!

Think about your holidays as you grow older.  Which location offers you more to do other than traveling there, cooking and reading. Where can you sightsee, shop, enjoy sporting activities and romantic dinners at home and at wonderful restaurants?
