IDS10 Sneak Peek: Architect Drew Mandel on the ULTIMATE Space

Drew Mandel; his award-winning Ravine House in Toronto.

Next up on my IDS10 teasers is awarded Toronto Architect Drew Mandel.  Coming at the ULTIMATE Designer Spaces project from a very different direction than Arren Williams, Drew Mandel grapples with how to do what he does -- highbrow, integrated modernism -- outside the usual parameters of client, context or a given landscape.  Check out his confession in our little video interview below, when I caught up with him at the ULTIMATE promotional shoot late last year (it was kind of busy, as you'll see and hear.)

Drew Mandel Design was established in Toronto in 2004. Projects include residences, commercial and residential interiors, landscapes, a small office building and product design. Honours include the City of Toronto Urban Design Awards, the Ontario Association of Architects Awards of Excellence (for Ravine House, above) and Best of Canada Awards. Mandel’s work has appeared in numerous national and international publications and exhibitions, including dwell, Wallpaper*, Toronto Life, Azure, The Globe and Mail, 1000 X Architecture of the Americas book, Canadian Interiors, The National Post and Twenty + Change.

Can't wait see what he comes up with!   Good luck Drew!
