Question of the Week: When Do You Take Down Your Holiday Decor?

Last December, we asked: Is it OK to leave your holiday lights up year round? Samantha Pynn, host of Pure Design, weighed in via video with an emphatic "Absolutely not, take them down after January 6th" and by the looks of the over 50 comments we received, many folks agreed.

So this year, I'm asking about the inside of your home. When do you take down your holiday decor? I.E. when do you dismantle the tree, round up the wreaths, pack Santa back in his box, remove the menorahs and generally de-holiday? And what's the next holiday you decorate for?

New Years Day...

While it's not my favourite tradition, there is usually a marathon on HGTV, and I console myself with finishing the Christmas treats left around the house!  It's exercise right?

However, I have a friend who always hosts a New Years Eve party, and one of the activities is to pack away her tree and decorations BEFORE midnight.  It's more fun to do with good friends, great food, and it starts the new year fresh!!!

I put my Christmas decor up early November, so I like to take it all down before New Years.  I do not want to see it going into the New Year.

Definitely start to take down after New Years!  I am always sad to see the Christmas season go!  Decor, then goes back to normal until Valentines where some small items go up!

I usually take mine down after Ukrainian Christmas since my husband is Ukrainian and his family celebrates it!

My husband was laid off in August and his company has not called him back yet, so we did not celebrate Christmas. The upside was that we had no decorations to take down. With no kids at home we just watched movies on TV and pretended it was just another day. Next year we hope to have a more festive celebration.

The decorations go up in November and are not taken down until mid January. Our grandkids love it.

Our family celebrates Old Christmas/Ukrainian Christmas which is the 7th of January. Usually the 7th falls in the middle of the week, so we celebrate on the weekend after that. The decorations stay up until our family has been together for "Christmas". Besides, January days can be so dark and dreary that a few lights up around the town help to brighten up the winter nights. But, only a few lights,

Three Kings Day, Epiphany, Boxing Day.... It is January 6.  That is the day they come down.

My son was born Jan. 6, so we always leave the outdoor lights turned on until then, but the inside stuff comes down sometime between the first and the next weekend.  Outdoor lights come down when they unfreeze.

My grandchildren want me to keep everything up... so I just slowly switch it up-changing poinsettes to roses for valentines! For outside the same, but alot depends on how deep is the snow1

The decorations come down on Boxing Day and the tree is down on New Year's Day.  The outdoor lights stay on till Jan 1 and are removed as soon as weather permits.

Always leave the decorations for New Year's celebrations, then re-coop for a day or two......so today is the day.

The house makes it's transformation to Christmas after 18 Nov, and then returns to our regular decor 02 Jan.  I have 27 Rubbermaid containers in which the decorations are packed by room/location.  I found this the quickest and easiest way to handle all the items !
