Question of the Week: Do You Have a Designer Christmas Tree Skirt?

Pottery BarnI've never given much thought to Christmas tree skirts until recently when I had to find a solution for my own petite tannenbaum. Instead of purchasing a mini tree skirt for my faux tree, I wrapped the plastic stand with a pretty scarf, but I realized that if I had a full-size, real needle-dropping tree, I would definitely need to find a better solution. That being said, just like buying actual apparel, there's a big difference in beauty and quality depending on how much you're willing to spend on your tree's holiday outfit.

HGTV.ca site manager Mia admitted to buying hers from West Elm for way too much money but gushed "I love it so much!" And apparently there's a market for upscale skirts, just look at Pottery Barn's monogrammed Jewel Quilted Velvet Tree Skirt (on sale for $99 so put in your order for next year now!).

I have to admit that while a designer skirt is tempting, I'd probably go the knock-off route and buy a lower-end but pretty version like the $20 Basket Weave Tree Skirt from Canadian Tire.

What about you? What's your tree skirt: discount or designer?

I noticed my mother-in-law's the other day, and it definitely looked homemade.  It had a Floridian-like pattern but in Christmas colours, and it had green fringe around it.

I'm afraid we have the Canadian Tire style. Before Christmas, you can't see it anyway, because there are gifts under the tree! After Christmas, we're losing our enthusiasm and Canadian Tire does the job!

No Christmas Tree Skirt...both of ours are artificial and they came in a "pot" to make them look as though they are planted. Some of the designer tree skirts are ever so tacky and quite expensive.

Canadian Tire for me.  With 2 persians who love to bask on it with the tree lights reflecting in their eyes, I don't feel guilty about getting a new one each year!  Have a wonderful Christmas, Happy Holidays!!

There is a designer Christmas tree skirt for $99.00?! Are you kidding? I'm glad the readers know frugality.....how much money do you need to support these things....why not show the readers things that the average joe can afford.....by the way, the thing is covered in presents anyway so you won't see it! Sheesh.

I arranged a length of fabric under the tree, it is a piece of red asian-inspired material with a sheen and it looks great!  (and next year if it's not all covered in sap it may become my party dress!)

I have a couple of tree skirts, both hand quilted by yours truly. I'm making another one for next year when we'll put a tree up in the 'man-cave', it'll be of burlap with an outdoor theme. Buy one? Never!
