Video Question of the Week: Ugly Decor Item that You LOVE and Defend?

Photo: DecDesigns.net

It sounds like an oxymoron but if you think about it, I'm sure you can scour your home in your mind's eye, and come up with that one piece that fits the bill.  In my house it's my dining room chandelier.  I've many other pieces that I absolutely love that others do not, but the chandelier is always the first to get the slap in the face.  It came with the house, it's chintzy, scrappy crystal, only one light bulb works and now it's falling apart on top of it all.  It casts menacing shadows on the wall with its haphazardly shape and one bulb during dinner, but I simply cannot get rid of it.  I don't know why. I  feel like it lends my house that deposed royalty/drafty chateau look.  (A girl can dream.)  We asked some people on the streets of Toronto to denounce their beloved ugly ducklings, and I wasn't surprised to hear that most were up to the task...

Question of the Week is featured every Monday on Stylesheet and on FoodNetwork.ca's Food For Thought blog.

I dont know if it could possibly be ugly to anyone BUT I do have a mid century modern very jetson-like three bulbed black plastic and chrome table lamp that i inherited from my Oma, and many people... comment on it. I have its matching counterpart, the hanging chained variety which needs some work in storage. I love it.

Not to prominent in my house, but on a wall nevertheless, hangs an ornate portrait of my father resembling Little Lord Fauntleroy in all his foppish splendor,  complete with the mandatory whippet. Hardly a rendition  to be proud of,  but I love that it appeals to my perverse sense of humor.

I have a Pier One papasan chair that has been with me since I was about 15 and I know it's ugly, but it's the best reading spot in the house.

I also have an ugly coffee table from my childhood that I'd love to get rid of, but haven't found the right replacement  yet.
