Moving Mayhem: One Month in and We're Still Not Unpacked!

It's been just over a month since we moved and I'm getting a bit fed up with this ongoing feeling of discombobulation. On Saturday I spent a good two hours at our storage spaces (plural!) looking for my daughter's hockey gear, our winter coats and boots, all of our DVDs, and Hallowe'en costumes. Meanwhile, my husband spent six hours of Saturday assembling the last of our children's beds: a daybed from IKEA that came with a boatload of screws and about 200 pounds of lumber.

I'm chomping at the bit to start decorating and painting and getting our new house to feel like a home but there are still so many rooms that are unsettled. I still have a lot of work to do to get all of our rooms settled but now I'm chomping at the bit to start what I see as the fun work of restoring and decorating our house to its full potential. I've started visiting eBay regularly to scope out items I'd like to have, such as a Persian rug in the living room and some original oil paintings. But I feel like I'm jumping ahead to dessert before finishing the main course. I need to finish unpacking and organizing each of the rooms before I can jump into painting and furnishing.

Thanks to you, my readers, I've overcome my lack of a linen closet problem and will just store one set of spare sheets in every bedroom's closet and will keep towels rolled up in the bathrooms. I've also decided to paint the wood trim and panelling, even though my husband and 11-year-old daughter still aren't sure it's the right idea. See last week's blog to see the wallpaper I'll use in the dining room above the plate rail. Because there is so much to paint, a friend suggested I hold a painting party. If you're a friend, and you're reading this, consider yourself invited!

Last week: Wallpaper It Up, Buttercup

A word of encouragement may be due......hang in there, every day you are making progress!

Sorry to see the woodwork go, but your home will be beautiful as you literally dig your way through one room at a time.

Been there; still sane! (?)
