Macabre Chic: Give this Easy Halloween Craft a Try

Now don’t you go calling this tacky too (like you did my ceramics lamp)! Don’t worry, I’m over it (not really.)

Today’s Halloween craft I discovered last year while compiling a Halloween décor post for your viewing pleasure. I found a version of it on this adorable blog called Design Mom, and seeing as it was too late then, I waited a whole year to give it a try.

And I think it worked!  Here’s what it entails:

  1. Find some creepy branches
  2. Spray paint them black
  3. Put them in a vase
  4. Hang a few Chinese Lanterns off of them

That’s it!

The nice thing about this is that it is – in my opinion – a very elegant Halloween decoration, which does not typically apply.  Halloween is for kids, mostly, and all thematic paraphernalia that goes along with it leaves much to be desired when it comes to aesthetics.

And then there’s this! If you wanted to, you could kiddify it with sparkles and spiders or even craft store ravens, but if not, it remains a simple and elegant arrangement with a hint of the macabre…  See details in the gallery!

So what do you think? (Tread lightly...)

nice Elana... I made one but was too lazy to paint it black. Also I hung bats on mine... it is tacky, the way I like it ;)

Gorgeous. I swear, I'd put this in my house and not even just for Halloween.

What an excellent idea! :)

Painted white would also look attractive against darker toned paint.  Maybe even fluorescent paint for those dim lit Halloween parties!?

Rajawa, glow-in-the-dark paint is a brilliant idea...
