Moving Mayhem: Wallpaper It Up, Buttercup

There was a time, not too long ago (like, two days ago) where I would have fought up and down, tooth and nail, against putting wallpaper up anywhere in my home, except maybe a small powder room. And even then I might not have done it because of the difficulty in changing your mind. Stripping wallpaper is up there on my list of least favourite things to do right after "clip cat's nails."

So when my designer friend Taisa suggested I paint out the wood plate rail and crown moulding in my new dining room and use an elegant wall paper JUST between the plate rail and moulding, my mouth gaped. It was only a space of about a foot. But, damn, it would look good. Especially if I painted out the bottom portion of the room (from the plate rail down to the floor) to look like wall panelling (as seen here).

Here's what I've found so far and I love it. It's bold and chic but wouldn't overpower the space since it would just be around the top one-quarter of the room. Add a lovely chandelier and I would be tripping over myself to host the next Christmas dinner.

What do you think?

Comments:

You would be bringing back what was the original decor in many older homes.

I agree it would look stunning with such a graphic paper.

In my new loft I will be using the "Wallpaper Company" as well, but I am going with the modern grasscloth. We will be painting the walls the same colour in the non-wallpapered areas, so our look is more about texture. The Wallpaper Company has a beautiful selection, nice choice.
