Backyard Makeover: Grass-Free Transformation

Dirty Business

If you didn't tune in to Tuesday's episode of Dirty Business, here's your chance to see the transformation you missed. This backyard started as a barren slab of cement and is now a sophisticated retreat. The homeowners (who had a taste for high-end materials) wanted an adult-friendly space (the basketball net had to go!) with a zen feel — hence the stone fountain nestled in the garden. This is also a great example of landscaping with very little natural landscape. The greenery between the wooden deck and stone patio area is just enough to keep this space feeling like a backyard but there's no lawn to mow and minimal weeding.

What do you think? Would you give up grass for a yard that looks like this?

awsome design!  love the way the two spaces are separated and that there is a nice flow between them.  I even like the water fountain.  Good job.
