Photo Gallery: Lighting with Mood & Style

Lighting is an essential component of any interior space and the way in which we manipulate and direct light can greatly impact a room's mood and style.

Whether you're working with light to create task lighting (illumination for specific tasks like reading, writing, hobbies, etc), accent lighting (lighting which highlights a specific area or detail), or mood lighting (a deliberate level of room brightness that evokes an emotion or eliicits a feeling) the most effective and efficient way to harness and control light is by using a light receptacle such as a light fixture, lamp shade, or chandelier. The style and design of the light feature combined with the the actual light itself can make or break the overall look and feel of a room. I've seen some plain and boring spaces get invigorated with style and mood by simply adding a fabulous light fixture or chandelier and I've also seen some fabulous rooms fail to measure up due to bad lighting choices.

For your viewing pleasure, I've compiled a gallery (see below) of various lighting features that the HGTV.ca editorial team and I have come across in our travels which successfully light up a space and create a mood with style. Also, we would love to see some of your moody and stylish lighting features or ones that you've encountered in your travels - please email us your pics to stylesheetAThgtvDOTca or show us by posting a picture to our flickr Style Sheet photo group!

I love the huge chandeliers at the end and the big globes with the light bulb in the middle are cool. I've been looking for something smaller and similar for my dining room. Thanks.
