Torontonians, Save Energy, Get Rewarded

This weekend and next, Torontonians are invited to bring old, inefficient room air conditioners and dehumidifiers to the Home Depot in return for a $25 (for an air conditioner) or $10 (for a dehumidifier) gift card. This Keep Cool initiative is just one part of a big Toronto Hydro program to encourage residents to save energy this summer.

Count Me In Toronto is a city-wide competition that's pitting different wards against each other and the greenest ward will win. Residents can win points for their ward by registering online and participating in Keep Cool.  And look for more upcoming challenges like Peaksaver and the Refrigerator Round Up. Just registering gives residents the chance to win a MacBook laptop. The winning Toronto ward will receive an energy retrofit such as a lighting upgrade, solar water heater, landscaping and outdoor lighting of a landmark building, chosen by the city councillors, with an approximate value of $5,000.00. The winning ward will be announced in September 2009.

Look for energy saving programs in your province:
