Bargain Saturday: Pizza Stone + Planter = Indoor/Outdoor Side Table

I may be a little bit dafty (as in daft and crafty), but I feel there's value in what I've got for you on this Bargain Saturday

The Bargain:

Ceramic Pizza Stone from Kitchen Stuff Plus.com, $10.00, with removable handles.

The Common Household Item:

Abandoned large planter, such as these; "Truffle" planter, Canadian Tire, "Profil" plant pot, Ikea, ice green "Pickle Pot", Home Depot, "Chatham" urn in "Buckskin", Canadian Tire,

The Dafty Creation:

A surprisingly elegant indoor/outdoor side table!

That's my porch, btw.  I love a visit to Kitchen Stuff Plus and while there, couldn't resist a $10.00 Pizza Stone (you won't get a crispier crust any other way!) mainly because it's made of a natural material, is round and neutral in colour.  If you know me, you'd know that I love anything that's not plastic that could be repurposed as some sort of table/ottoman/stool thing.  And voila!  I've got a few abandoned large planters that will sooner crack from exposure to a couple of winters than get filled with beautiful plants, so I thought, hey, I sit on my porch a lot, why not make me a little wine table!?

The good thing about this pizza stone is that it's 15" in diameter, which fits perfectly over the top of most large planters (such as the ones pictured above.)  Even if it sinks into the planter half an inch, the idea works just as well.  A word of caution: the ceramic pizza stone is quite porous (which incidentally makes it great for staining or antiquing), so if you want to use it as a wine table, you may want to seal it with something so it doesn't stain.  Also, while it's heavy enough to simply sit atop the planter, you may want to affix it somehow if it's going to be in a high traffic area.

What do you think?  Would you do this?

this is a great idea, I would have never thought of using the pizza stone for this, maybe glass or plexi glass.
