Makeover: Sarah's Cottage Rooftop Deck

rooftop deck

The countdown to the long weekend is on. And what better way to spend a few lazy afternoons than kicking back on a gorgeous patio or deck? Okay, okay, realistically most of us haven't had the chance to decorate our outdoor spaces at home let alone those at the cottage but hopefully this makeover, courtesy of Sarah Richardson's cottage decorating adventures on Sarah's Cottage will inspire you.

Sarah's own inspiration for the top floor of her cottage, which also includes the master bedroom and kids loft, came from her warm, fuzzy feelings about summer. "Carefree and full of fun," the colours she used are lighthearted and bright. Take this decorating philosophy to heart when tackling your own decks and yards — especially if you have kids. A clean palette of white seems like a good idea until someone spills sangria or grape juice all over your new seat cushions.

Comments:

I followed the shows on TV & enjoyed them immensely.

With reference to the outdoor furniture cushions, I would think that being water-proof they'd also be fairly well spill-proof. My question is: where do you put al this stuff over the winter? Pile it up in the bedrooms?

A cottage should be for relaxing. There's still too much house-keeping here for my taste.

Excelent home design show. Very informative with great unique concepts. But.......does Sarah have her safe boating card? She does not appear to be 'wearing' one as she pilots her fiberglass skiff out to the family cottage. WEAR YOUR PFD'S please boaters. It may save your life one day. Please set an example Sarah.

Thanks and have a safe boating summer!
