I'm an urban kind of gal, have been since I left the 'burbs of my youth for big city living (with a few years dwelling in a mid-size university town). While checking out our sister site, Househunting.ca I found an article about the website Walkscore.com, which rates the "walkability" of your property, meaning how far major amenities like groceries, parks, restaurants, drug stores, etc. are from your home. Walkscore promotes walking as an eco- and health-friendly benefit to the already important location factor.
The tool pinpoints addresses in the United States and Canada and flags locations near your home via Google Maps. For example, my centrally-located home rated an 83/100 Very Walkable score (anything 70+ is Very Walkable), and I discovered five yoga studios within 1km of my house!
