Shop Review: Vancouver Special

Vancouver Special is found in one of my favourites of Vancouver, Mount Pleasant. Located on Main Street at East 20th, Vancouver Special is... well, just as it states: special. Anne Pearson has pulled together a flawless mix of furniture, accessories, art, and a massive book collection of design and architecture books.

Some of my favourites:

  • Square felt poufs in bold solid colours
  • Tivoli radios in every shade
  • And the thinnest glassware that can, apparently, be baked in the oven (I'd be a wreck the whole time it was in there, waiting for it to explode. But I'm assured it won't!)

I also loved the urchin light by Vancouver based Molo Design. You have to see their work to believe it! It's made from paper and can be moved into shapes by pressing on the sides. I admit I became a bit obsessed with poking this light.

There is a fun and corner-less colouring table for the kids to create on, and then there is Woofy the cable dog. He can't fix your cable, but he can hide all those nasty cords in his little belly.

See bottom of this post for more photos of the shop.
