Makeover: Turn Any Room into a Library

A library used to be considered a luxury room in the past, but today libraries are a popular retreat found in many homes across the continent. In this week's episode of HGTV's Top Ten we get an exclusive look at ten different libraries across North America and we get to learn about the inspiration behind each room. The designers featured in the show breakdown each room for us so that we are able to fully understand, from a design and style perspective, how and why each of the featured libraries work and how we can achieve a similar look ourselves.

Books are the primary and motivating feature behind a library and how these literary works are physically organized and articulated in this room determines a great library. Furniture, lighting, and accessories are considered secondary, but they are still essential to the overall success of this space. A library should create an overall feeling of retreat or peacefulness and help to inspire thought, creativity, and imagination.

My favourite library from this episode is the contemporary one with the green shag carpet and the matching green modern chair (see images below and see the rest of the images for more library makeover inspiration). I love all of the natural lighting from the huge windows and I want all of the modern furnishings! Its overall simplicity and elegance is inspirational, inviting, and instills solitude to the space don't you think?

Comments:

I saw this episode earlier this week and it was interesting to see    all of the different styles of libraries. Pure eye candy.

I'm trying to find the drapery material shown on the Top Ten Libraries. It has words printed all over it as shown above.

I would appreciate it if anyone knows where to find it.

thanks

Frank
