Top 5 Friday: Modern Accent Vases

Spring has finally arrived and I have been thinking about simple ways to refresh my decor. I came to the conclusion that the easiest way to add some interest into my home is to get some new accessories.

Specifically, accent vases are an inexpensive and effective way of adding color, visual interest, texture, and beauty into any space. The look and feel of a room can instantly be changed by simply adding, removing or repositioning these versatile accessories. You can fill the vases with flowers for a burst of color or display them on their own and let their beauty shine.

I have a number of pieces, but I am always on the lookout for new and interesting styles. My design style is modern and for this week's Top 5 Friday I am sharing my latest finds...

Luxe Sculptural Art

Pina Silver Vase, $550 CAD, Umbra

This luxe hand crafted Pina Silver Vase is designed by Karim Rachid for Umbra and I love how this vase blurs the line between accent vase and art sculpture. Ultra glamorous and truly fabulous this vase illustrates how an accent vase can function empty and stand alone as an art piece.

Whimsical Elegance

Bird Vase, $19 CAD, Teatro Verde

Although I'm not really that keen on animal sculptures, this metallic Bird Vase spoke to me. This vase is pure whimsical elegance at its best and it reminded me that it's "OK" to have fun with decor. I have seen many variations of animal vases and the more abstract the piece is, the better it will work in any space.

Modern Abstraction

Alvar Aalto Dual Colored Vase, $265 CAD, Gabrielross.com

The irregular abstract shape of the Alvar Aalto Dual Colored Vase automatically instills it with interest and the contrasting color combination makes it uber modern. This is a vase that would be stunning either empty or filled and due to it's non-conventional shape, you could easily fill it with non-conventional items to heighten the visual interest.

Minimal Industrialism

Stainless Steel Cylinder Vases, $24.95 - $29.95 USD, CB2.com

These Stainless Steel Cylinder Vases are modern, elegant, and functional. Clean simple lines are achieved through a minimal and industrial execution. I like the simplicity of these accent pieces and they definitely illustrate how less can be more.

Cubist Still Life

Chisel Vase, $29.95 USD, CB2.com

My favourite find is this stoneware vase inspired by Cubism, which was an avant-garde art movement where works of art were broken up, analyzed, and re-assembled in an abstract form. It's another vase that could easily stand alone as an art piece or be used to display a single large bloom. I like this vase because it instantly creates interest and it effortlessly introduces texture into its surroundings. The Chisel Vase is totally a piece of sensory art - I just want to reach into the picture and touch it!

Which of these is accent vases is your favourite? Which vases do you like the least?

Love the chisel vase - do not like the abstract vase at all

None of the above appeal to me.  I love a traditional vase that will show case my flowers and allow the flowers to cascade from the mouth of the vase.  letting the flowers be the true art.
